February 2007
Lily is still picking up new words and phrases. This morning she woke up and said,
"Daddy, I want ba-ba please," whereas she used to just shout "Ba-ba!". I carried her to
the kitchen but said I couldn't find her bottle, so she said, "Get a new one." I found
a new one in the cupboard, and she said, "Good job, Daddy!"
Another of her kind of weird words (in addition to "conon" for penguin) is "runner" for
dinosaur. She used to watch the Disney movie Dinosaur over and over (a couple months ago)
in her bedroom, where the dinosaurs spend most of the movie running away from the big
meteor impact site, so she calls them all "runners".
Building on last month's "Lily's a girl, Daddy's a boy" phrases, Lily insisted several times to
me that she was a boy like Daddy. She got so agitated about it that I stopped correcting her
for a couple days, but Michelle said we better keep that clear in her mind!
I've liked Lily's behavior the last week of this month. She was fun to come home to
(that isn't always true!).

Lily got these necklaces from the Dollar Store around Christmas, and just loves them!

For several days Lily told us she had to go potty, and when we took her in the bathroom,
she did in fact go (both Number 1 and Number 2). She fussed about putting a diaper back on,
so we tried training pants (pictured) for an afternoon. At night time we put her back in her diaper,
and then she stopped using the potty the rest of the month. We'll try again whenever
she's ready.

She saw some old cartoons with Porky Pig and kept asking to watch "Porky", so I put
on a Looney Tunes DVD with Porky and Daffy Duck. Now she likes both of them. At night,
one of the cable channels shows Duck Dodgers (which has Daffy and Porky in it), so
we often watch that in bed before going to sleep.

Lola and Papa sent a check for Lily's birthday, figuring the money would go farther
if they didn't have to pay to ship boxes of presents. So we picked out some toys and let
Lily pick some out for herself. She got a magnetic drawing board with Elmo on it,
a ViewMaster with Happy Feet (penguin) pictures, a "Learn Through Music" toy with
cartridges for Sesame Street and Dora the Explorer, and lots of "chunky" puzzles
(easier to grab than flat puzzle pieces).

Lily hasn't wanted to wear pants a lot this month! Here she is sitting in her diaper, playing
with the microphone that came attached to her "Learn Through Music" present. She just keeps saying
"I love Mommy!" and "I love Daddy!" into it repeatedly! Click the movie to view it,
or download it here.

Lily has gotten bold enough to go down the bigger slide on her playset more often.
In the third picture, she's grabbing the top frame and lifting up her legs! Strong girl!

In this movie, she sits at the top and chants "Lily! Lily!" before sliding. This is because many
months ago (probably a year ago) when she had her smaller slide, I would chant "Lily! Lily!"
to encourage her to slide down. She liked it and sometimes started chanting it herself. Then we'd put
her stuffed Homer Simpson on the slide and chant "Homer! Homer!", and so on with her other stuffed toys.

Her day care center had a Valentine's Day party. Here are Lily and Madeline with
their two boyfriends, Cai (third picture, left) and Sean (right). Cai is Lily's,
and Sean is Madeline's. (Cai and Sean may not realize this.)

Madeline's birthday party was this month. She got a cool play kitchen
that Lily and the other kids crowded around.

Here are some of the happy faces at Madeline's party: Michelle and Bill Willis,
Cailey and Christine, two Susans, and Lily and me.

Something surprising happened at cake time: Madeline, who usually
devours cakes and gets it all over her, barely ate any. Lily, who
doesn't like cake, ate her whole piece! Michelle Willis suggested it's
because we're always trying to give her chocolate cake, and this was
a white cake. My daughter doesn't like chocolate?? It must be a
mutation.

The party turned pretty wild when Cailey and Madeline started flashing
everyone! Luckily my daughter was wearing overalls and couldn't join in!

Then came the Baby Battle. Julie's son Reed was playing with a baby
in a stroller, and Lily wanted it and started pouting and complaining.
I took her out of the room for a while. Later, Reed's sister Madison
grabbed the baby away from her brother and gave it to Lily! That doesn't
sound like the fair thing to do, but it did calm Lily down. Michelle and I
were surprised and hadn't thought she would want to play with baby dolls.

After the Baby Battle, we bought Lily her own Cabbage Patch baby. We let
her pick one out, and were not surprised when she pointed to a blue-eyed
blond-haired boy, named Darrien. He looks like Cameron and Cai, two boys Lily has
the hots for. We assume this attraction to blue-eyed blondes is from
Lola's genes, since Lola was hot for Troy Donohue growing up.

One of the attics in our house is an optional bonus room connected to Lily's
room. She wanted to go in there, so I took her, and she saw lots of her
old toys that we stored away. She wanted to play with the roller coaster,
so I brought it downstairs.

She didn't want to put the roller coaster back in the attic, so Michelle and I made room
for it in her playroom. We had to put away the big blue rocket ship and move
some things to the playset side of the room.

Michelle bought these SpongeBob jammies for Lily, which she loves. We had a hard time getting
them off of her so we could put her school clothes on this morning.
