April 2010

Spring is here! Winters here are usually mild, with zero or one snowstorm typically, but this winter had several snowstorms and a lot of cold spells. It was more refreshing than usual when the 70-degree sunny days arrived. Yay, warm weather!

April had a lot of beautiful sunny days, and we went to the park for the first time since fall. She especially loves the swings. And there are lots of great photo-ops for me to enjoy!

This month Lily flew a kite for the first time. Pop got it up in the air and then Lily kept it flying, yanking on the line now and then.

Grandma Jean sent Lily money for Easter, so we went to Toys R Us and she bought Legos. She started eagerly assembling them, got frustrated when parts of her building broke off or fell, and wouldn't quit until she used every block in the box. Here's her resulting creation.

"Little Car", the classic Miata that Uncle Deryl gave Lily, has been sitting in our driveway since its engine overheated and died 8 months ago (July 2009). This month we could afford to repair it, so Little Car was towed to Meineke Car Care center. Three weeks later, the car had a new engine, new radiator, new fuel pump, and some other minor fixes. I picked Lily up from after-school care in it, and we were both so excited to ride in it again. We drove to the park to celebrate.

When I come home from work, Lily sometimes runs to the garage door and lays down on the floor like this. She's pretending to be a hat. My job is to say, "Hey, someone left this hat on the floor! I better put it on!" So I lift her onto my head, show off my new hat to Mommy, and then discover that the hat is really Lily. Some days when I come home, I hope she isn't waiting there on the floor, and other days I'm sad if she isn't.

I asked Lily what she drew in this painting. She told me it was an alien with extra arms peeing on the ground, and I laughed. She indignantly asked, "Why are you laughing at my painting?" Me: "I thought it was funny. I thought you wanted me to laugh." Her: "I don't joke about something beautiful!"

I noticed her sitting with her legs crossed while she was watching TV. She looked so grown up!

Lola has Lily practicing math.

Dressed in her Snow White costume, she wanted to make bubbles on our driveway. I sat and mostly read Facebook, occasionally looking up to take pictures. She was really getting into it, using two bubble wands at a time.

A boy in Lily's class named Ean had a birthday party at the local bouncy place called Jump. These are always fun. Ean is in the last picture blowing out candles.

I often grill a steak for dinner, but I never get to eat it all by myself!

Most nights Lily sleeps next to me, and periodically rolls toward me until I'm pushed out of the bed. If I go sleep somewhere else, she rolls over to Michelle and snuggles there. But Michelle doesn't get pushed out of bed. She pushes back!
