Month 14, March 2006

We took our first trip to the zoo this month using our free zoo passes (one of Lily's birthday presents). Lily had lots of new things to see and pointed at all the animals. She got to see the tigers, which are her close relatives (Michelle and her father went to Clemson, home of the Tigers).

She also got to see the penguins, my Linux-using brethren!

We bought a toddler bed, which Lily likes better than her crib (because she's not caged in). I put her in it every night this month, but she frequently wakes up during the night now. Maybe it's the unfamiliar surroundings? I keep stumbling upstairs in the wee hours to get her back to sleep, and slept on the floor in her room a few times. I know, eventually I will just have to let her cry herself back to sleep.

Lily crawls into her rocket ship to play by herself, and sometimes I join her.

She loves her bear Snowball and carries her (it's a girl, we've decided) around the family room a lot. Here she brought Snowball into her Pooh bed.

Lily managed to climb into her toy shopping cart, and I wheeled her around in it. Michelle was not happy about this, though, thinking Lily could fall over (and she did, several times). When we first saw her climbing into the cart, she simultaneously heard "Good girl!" from Daddy and "No!" from Mommy!

We went to Build-A-Bear to get something for Lily. She wasn't interested in the bears and other animals, but she did reach for the dolls. It's funny that she reached for this one because its model name is "Lily Girl"! Rather than call her Lily, we named her Jeannette (Lily's second middle name, after my mom).

Here are a couple cute outfits she wore this month. I always like her in jeans, because she looks more like a miniature adult.

Madeline got pictures taken at Portrait Innovations for her first birthday, and Cameron came too. Their mom did a stellar job color-coordinating their clothes in the fourth picture!

We tried putting barrettes in Lily's hair now that it's getting long. Most of the time, though, we just let her curly locks fall where they want.

We bought a little playhouse with a slide this month, and Lily instantly loved it, sliding down it over and over. More recently she had a bad fall and hasn't gone on it as much, but hopefully she'll get over that.

Lily loves going out shopping, or to restaurants, or anywhere there are lots of people and things going on around her. Here she is at Wal-Mart, riding in the cart and looking around at everything. She likes standing in the main part of the cart rather than sitting in the seat.

Michelle picked out lots of new clothes because Lily's growing out of the old ones. In the fourth picture Lily's paying the cashier with my wallet!

This month I'm a great-uncle, and my older sister Tina is a grandmother! (Whoah, I just aged a decade saying those words.) This is little Cameron. He's Lily's ... let's see ... nephew? Heh! My 14-month-old daughter is Aunt Lily!
