Week 23, July 6-12
So many things seem different now that Lily can sit up and roll over
(heh -- sounds like a puppy). Playtime, bathtime, and naptime all follow new rules.

Lily's Baby Einstein toy (see Week 5) was becoming useless, because she
would roll onto her stomach and prop her head up, and the hanging toys would bump against
her head. I took the top part off so it's just a play mat now, and she's happy
laying and sitting on it while playing with her toys. She got interested in touching
the watery part (second picture).

This one would have been obsolete now too: it's a kick toy, where you lay down and
kick it with your feet to make music play.
But it converts to a sitting-up toy that you hit with your hands,
so luckily it's still fun for her.

Lily can sit up in her bathtub and hold bath toys while we clean her.
She likes this a lot better than laying there. Except for sleeping, she wants to
spend all her time sitting, standing, or moving around, not laying down.

Even when we lay her down to change her diaper, she tries propping herself up
on her elbows, defiantly trying to stay upright!

Lily still loves her walker, and can maneuver around pretty well. I used to try
getting her to scoot towards us without success, but now she can do it easily and follows us around.

Sitting up really frees up your hands, and Lily has started using two hands to grab her toys.
Good hominid! Anthropologists often say that walking upright, by freeing up our hands, was
essential to our ability to make and use tools.

Lily saw Mommy drinking from a red cup and kept reaching for it, so we gave her
an empty red cup, and she mimicked holding it up to her mouth to drink!

We got a ring-shaped toy for her to grab and chew on, which she liked playing with.
She fell asleep clutching it.

Before falling asleep with her ring, Lily had plenty to say, and here's a movie of it.

Here are two outfits from this week she hasn't worn before.
Both pink, but I don't mind pink if you don't overdo it.

Why get your own thumb wet when you can suck Daddy's thumb instead?
