Week 26, July 27 - Aug. 2

Lily said "Dada" this week, her first word! At first I wasn't sure if she was just making the sound at random without connecting it to me, but over the next few days she said it mostly when I was around or she was looking for me. Cool!!

Here are movies of her saying "Dada" (first one, second one). She started on Thursday (July 28th), and keeps saying it every day now. It sounds more like "a-da-da" most of the time.

We bought Lily a balloon, which she had fun playing with, although she's pretty sedate in these pictures -- we were out shopping a long time and she got tired.

Lily kept laughing while Michelle blew gum bubbles and popped them. I didn't catch the bubbles in these photos, but you can see Michelle's yellow popped gum in the third picture.

Here's a Quicktime movie of her giggling at the gum-blowing (download here). (The movie is pretty dark.)

On Saturday we rearranged the front rooms so that one of them could be a playroom for Lily, and we could consolidate a lot of her toys in one place. She's getting close to crawling now, and we picked this room because we could easily put a gate up at the edge of it.

We got her a new toy that she can play with either sitting up, crawling, or standing up. While we were helping her stand to play with the top part, she was able to hold herself up even when I pulled my hands away!

The same thing happened while riding her horse. If I let go of her, she was able to hold onto the horse by herself, though not for very long.

She looks really bored in this picture. I think she's flipping me off in the second one!

When she's done eating, she clamps her lips shut and we can't cram the spoon in there anymore.

Lily was talking and making "oo-ooh" sounds here, and her mouth looked pretty funny while she was doing it.
