Week 27, Aug. 3-9

Lily's six months old now (as of Aug. 2nd), which means she had to go to the doctor's this week to get shots. We also tried giving her a sippy cup for the first time, and I think she's ready to start sleeping upstairs in her crib.

These are the few happy photos I was able to get at the doctor's! She was crying before and after these pictures. I think she remembers her last shots (two months ago). When I took her into the examination room and laid her down on the table, she started screaming right away until I picked her up again -- and that was just to measure her! She screamed again when she got her shots. On the positive side, she stopped screaming a couple minutes after the shots were over (whereas last time she kept screaming for about 30 minutes all the way home).

We put water in a sippy cup for her to try. Apparently water tastes really gross when the only liquid you've ever had is formula!

On Monday night I put her to sleep in her crib upstairs. She slept about six hours and woke up at 3:30 a.m. The musical mobile made her laugh. She looked very interested in her new surroundings and didn't seem sleepy anymore. However, Daddy still needed sleep! So I took her downstairs to our bedroom and we slept in the recliner until 6 a.m.

Even in her crib, Lily doesn't stay put much lately!

We got her a remote control toy a few weeks ago, where the controller just has four red plastic bumps, one of which is the transmitter. Previously she would hold the yellow controller and be surprised when the toy would move, but now I think she's figured it out. She was pressing all the buttons this time and watching the toy zoom around.

I bought her a remote control dinosaur too! (Okay, this toy might have been for Daddy. But if Mommy can use Lily as a dress-up doll, then I can use her to justify buying toys I want!) The dinosaur roars and walks. I held it and petted it first so she wouldn't be afraid of it.

I've tried reading a couple books to her, but she squiggles around a lot and isn't patient enough to listen to the words yet. So I gave her a book to play with, and she liked looking at the pictures.

While we get ready in the mornings, she sits on the bathroom floor with her toys and plays. She usually behaves pretty well while we're getting ready, as long as she can see us.

Lily's gearing up to crawl soon. She can move herself around slightly now, and we think we saw her taking a crawling step, but she's still learning.
